What I Was Thinking: When Tom Punched Myrtle

I thought I really should not come here today when I saw Tom punch Myrtle. I did not know what exactly happened between them since I was so drunk. Faintly, I heard someone calling Daisy’s name, and then I saw Tom break Myrtle’s nose with his fist. I guessed probably they were fighting about Daisy. Even though Tom was my old friend, I had to admit that he was not a good man for either Daisy or Myrtle. He was Daisy’s husband, but he fell in love with another woman and did not try to hide it at all. He was Myrtle’s lover, but he did not get divorced and punched Myrtle because she called out Daisy’s name. I was worried about Daisy. What Tom did today made me feel he was so rude, and I could not help wondering if he would punch Daisy that way when he got angry at home, or punch their little young girl Pamela. At this moment, I genuinely wished Daisy could leave Tom. I believed deep in his heart Tom was not that kind of gentleman he behaved most of times. When I finally ...

Why I Helped Gatsby and Daisy Get Together

Even though I had known Tom since my college years, I felt I would like to have Gatsby and Daisy been together. I felt like almost everyone knew that Tom had another woman in New York since he never tried to hide his affair. I knew it was so common for someone in Tom's place to have women outside and cheat on his wife, but when it came to Daisy the thing became not so acceptant. Daisy is my cousin and I hoped she could always be happy. But when I visited them for dinner, I found she was having a hard time because of her husband's affair. Tom left the table in the dinner time for Myrtle’s call, which made Daisy so angry. I understood her feeling, and I agreed that Tom was not a very good husband. He could give Daisy all material things she wanted, but not the spiritual connection. I thought Daisy might want to leave him, but to my surprise she did not. She even lied she was a Catholic to avoid divorcing. Gatsby, another young rich man, loved Daisy too. I was astou...

What I Was Feeling: When Gatsby Died

I was so surprised when I heard the news of Gatsby's death. He just died so suddenly in his pool, where he went to for the first time in the whole summer. He was killed by George Wilson for revenge, and that was what I felt most sad for him. I would rather have him killed by other reason than be killed for something he had never done. I knew it was Daisy who really killed Myrtle. Even though Gatsby might like to hide the truth for her, it was still unacceptable to me that the cost was his life. Gatsby was a good man, better than most of people I had ever met. Although I did not know him long, I was heartbroken at his funeral. The only thing that comforted me a little bit was that I had told Gatsby he was worth all of other people put together before I left. That was the only praise I had ever given to him, and I felt maybe I should say something more at that time. I did not expect that was the last time we met. There were not so many people came to his funeral,...
